BTMA-What are differences between jaw crusher and hammer crusher?

Hammer crusher and jaw crusher are common crushing equipment in mining/building materials industry. The feeding port is large and the crushing efficiency is high. It is mainly used for coarse crushing of various ore materials. But they are different in many ways, which is better?

1. Different appearance and working principle

The appearance and working principle of the 2 crushers are different. The jaw crusher is a curved dynamic extrusion type, and the material is crushed in the crushing cavity composed of the movable jaw and the fixed jaw.

The crushing of the hammer crusher mainly depends on the impact, shearing and tearing of the rotating hammer, the mutual impact between the materials and the counterattack of the lining plate.

2. Different applicable materials

The jaw crusher can crush various soft and hard materials with compressive strength between 300-350Mpa, such as granite, quartzite, diabase, pebbles, iron ore, etc.

Hammer crusher is mainly used to crush ores with low hardness, and its compressive strength is generally lower than 200Mpa, such as limestone, bluestone, coal gangue, etc. When crushing hard materials, the hammer head is severely worn, and frequent replacement costs are high.

3. Different discharge adjustment methods

The adjustment of the discharge particle size of the hammer crusher is realize by replacing the bottom sieve plate. There are three adjustment methods of jaw crusher: bottom plate adjustment, wedge adjustment and hydraulic cylinder.

4. Different structures and wearing parts

Hammer crusher is mainly compose of casing, rotor, main shaft, lining plate and impact plate. The hammer head is the key fragile part.
The jaw crusher consists of a frame, a transmission device, an adjustment device, a tensioning device, a safety device and a lubrication system. The jaw plate is the main wearing part.

5. Different production line configurations

The content of needle pieces in the output of jaw crusher is relatively high, which needs to be shape by impact crusher.
Hammer crusher is mainly used for industrial secondary crusher, one-time forming, no need for secondary crushing and shaping process, and is often used in small and medium-sized production lines.

6. Different applications of aggregate lines

Hammer crushers are rarely use in aggregate production lines. Although the process is simple, the yield is low, it is easy to be crushed, and there are many powdery materials. In addition, the finished aggregate may have microcracks and low compressive strength, affecting aggregate quality, sales and price. Therefore, it is often used as an auxiliary sand maker.
The jaw crusher is often used as the coarse crushing equipment in the aggregate production line, followed by the impact crusher or cone crusher, and then added to the sand making machine (shaping machine) for shaping.

7. Which is better hammer crusher or jaw crusher

The main advantage of the hammer crusher is that the ore with low hardness is formed at one time. For production lines with output <300t/h, a single hammer crusher can replace jaw crusher + impact crusher.

The main advantages of jaw crusher are simple structure, convenient maintenance, high wear resistance, high cost performance, suitable for all kinds of hard ores. However, due to the high content of needle-like aggregates and flake-like aggregates in the discharge, it is necessary to cooperate with an impact crusher for shaping.
